  3. An edit cheat  -  By Simon Burrows

  5. `This was  much more  difficult to  'hack' than  normal, to say the
  6. `least,  since   the  save  game  files  become  different  lengths
  7. `depending on which difficulty level  you are using, which slot you
  8. `have saved  your game  under, and by which name  you have saved it
  9. `by.  This means that the area of the save-game file  that contains
  10. `information  on your number of lives, shots etc. is also different
  11. `each time! Because of this, the following edit is more complicated 
  12. `than  usual, and  will  require the  use  of a  HEX-Editor  with a 
  13. `feature for searching strings of HEX.

  16. ~`To work the edit, complete the following steps...

  18.  
  19. `  i)  Load  Gateworld and start a new game remembering  whether it
  20. `      is an easy, normal or hard game.
  21. `
  22. ` ii)  When the  game begins,  don't  move and don't shoot!!  Press 
  23. `      [ESC] to get the menu, and  select the  'Save Game'  option.   
  24. `      Select the top  slot and  save you  game under  any name you 
  25. `      like.  When the game is saved, quit  Gateworld and get  back 
  26. `      to a DOS prompt.
  27. `
  28. `iii)  Now  load a  HEX-Editor with a search feature and pop-up the
  29. `      file called "SAVGAME0.GW1".
  30. `
  31. ` iv)  Make a search for one of the  following strings depending on
  32. `      whether you were in a easy, normal or hard game :-

  35. `           EASY    -  06 00 00 00 0A 00
  36. `           NORMAL  -  03 00 00 00 05 00
  37. `           HARD    -  01 00 00 00 04 00

  40. `  v)  When  you arrive  at  the  destination,  change  the  string
  41. `      located there to the following :-

  44. `           84 03 84 03 84 03
  45.

  47. ` vi)  Now load  Gateworld back  up, load  your save game, and  you
  48. `      should find  you have  900 coins,  900 lives and 900 shots!!
